30 THEATRICAL TERRORS: I Am Not A Serial Killer (Day 4)

Every town has it’s monsters.

Tonight we come to a fairly new film about a boy struggling with his very nature who must stop a killer who cannot overcome his.

Based on a novel of the same name by Dan Wells,
I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER,
the movie features a young man who has been diagnosed as a sociopath who is undergoing therapy to combat his harmful natural instincts. John Wayne Cleaver (Max Records) is the teenage misfit who is drawn to death and destruction. And growing up in a family run funeral home probably hasn’t helped.

Nor has the recent bloody murders in his hometown. It has the young psycho-killer-obssessed teen fascinated. And with the unique perspective from inside the funeral home (where the bodies sometimes arrive for repair and presentation), his interest is set in stone.

He wonders why the killer acts so randomly, so inconsistently if he is a serial murderer. Things that should fit, just don't seem to make sense. What follows is a story that goes to places unexpected. This is a quirky international indie picture that doesn't quite check all the boxes, because it also tries to be something altogether different.

But I don't hold that ambition against it, because it does come close enough for this viewer to be worthy of a watch for the performances and even that spunk.

Strap in, here’s a peek…
