THE DEAD ARE COMING FOR YOU IN OCTOBER

In October, on the AMC network, will begin airing it's adaptation of the acclaimed comic book series THE WALKING DEAD. Below is footage of it's panel discussion at the San Diego Comic Con 2010...

XEMNU THE TITAN

XEMNU COMMANDS YOU by ~Ragnaroker on deviantART

ALWAYS ENJOYED THE WHOLE SHTICK behind Xemnu. Big furry giant who isn't a brawler, but a mastermind with hypnotic powers. Just a great contrast there. That and he'd make a pretty dang cool toy teddy bear for any would be world dominator...

One of the key "Kirby Monsters" in that he was referred to as a "Hulk" shortly before the appearance of the jade-skinned giant we all know as Bruce Banner's alter-ego today. He was, perhaps, used to best effect in John Byrne's brilliant SHE-HULK series.

Dustin Nguyen is Underrated

Even before I ran into Dustin Nguyen online at Deviant Art, I thought he was one of those underrated artists. Even before I briefly met him in Charlotte at Heroes Con, I knew he was a relatable chap. Waaay back when he was drawing WILDC.A.T.S. is when I "discovered" his ability (which has only grown), I knew he could turn heads with his storytelling.

He can do it all, in the realm of comic book art. Even shows in this headshot he produced while I bugged him with questions...

Too bad for me that he seems perfectly happy at DC Comics, this drawing is proof he'd do well with the Marvel Universe.

THUNDERCATS HO!

Had a lot of fun with todays DSC...

THOR: ON THE SET WITH E.T.

Click on the video below to view the widescreen at Youtube as it doesn't seem to be showing completely here:

Meant to post this a while back--an Entertainment Tonight reporter goes behind the scenes on the set of THOR. It generally looks pretty good as we get to see Anthony Hopkins as Odin, a quick flash of Heimdall, a speedy peek at Thor full length and a few other things. Adds more to my feeling (along with the rumors that I've heard) that Donald Blake is not to be a part of this film.

BILL WILLINGHAM and THOR

The above is what is known in comic book fandom as a free headshot. It is a very quickly sketchily drawn depiction of the fan's character of choice. Often scribbled onto a comic book backing board (tends to be my M.O.) or sketchbook (those fancy-pants fellas that "think ahead"), it is better than a simple signature because it allows the fan to further prod the comic book professional about upcoming projects, gossip about other artists and writers and just in general get a cool drawing of your favorite character!

Bill Willingham has been one of my favorite writer/artists since his days at Comico (the comic company) and his work on THE ELEMENTALS (a series that was ahead of it's time or maybe right on time), so the chance to meet him and hear him hold forum with fans of his FABLES work was a real treat.

While he drew this headshot of Thor, I told him how I always thought he'd be a great writer for the THOR series. It only now occurs to me that he wrote a version of Thor in his ELEMENTALS series all those years ago. Doh!

ROBOCOP REBOOT?

Are they really talking about doing a reboot of the ROBOCOP movie franchise? I dunno, heard a rumor. Actually this is just a chance to post my first ever (and only) drawing of the character. He was the subject of the Daily Sketch Challenge today over at www.Deviantart.com. It's not that I don't like the idea of the character or franchise, but that he's a bit of a mess to draw. Easier than I thought, actually, but you get the idea.

I'll use this as an opportunity to recommend the best thing I've ever read about this character (and the Terminator): ROBOCOP VS TERMINATOR by Frank Miller and Walt Simonson. Fine damn exciting comics they was! Read 'em boy, lest you lose yo mind!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY CAPTAIN AMERICA!

Boy have I been slack about my blog of late. But this month, I vow to make at least ten posts of entertaining importance!
