Wishing Linus into the Patch: Countdown to Halloween (Day 18)

Little is known of the Great Pumpkin, the Halloween holiday figure that only Linus van Pelt truly believes in.  Every year Linus faithfully sits in what he believes in the most sincere pumpkin patch that he can find in the hopes that it’s sincerity will summon the Great Pumpkin to appear.  He is said to bring toys and gifts to all the good little boys and girls.  Linus always encourages the other kids to “go out and sing pumpkin carols”.

Inevitably, every year, the Great Pumpkin doesn’t show up.  Whether it is the sincerity of the pumpkin patch Linus has picked or the possibility that the Great Pumpkin doesn’t exist, we may never know.  Linus never looses faith, however.  He always vows to try again the next year to sit in the most sincere patch and wait all night if he has to.

Because of Linus’ religious beliefs he lost his chance to do well in a school election.  This taught him the lesson he aspires to every day, “There are three things I have learned never to discuss with people: religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin."

And now a few links to more details about the Great Pumpkin and his faithful Linus van Pelt...
